My days are Busy with a capital B. I wake up in the mornings and start editing content, head out for interviews, film on camera segments and then when the day shift ends I head into Sportsnet to host the sports updates on the radio. That is just Monday through Friday. On Saturday’s you can catch me in the hockey arena or lacrosse field where I am hosting the games, interviewing players, and reporter live on the event. As I said, Busy.

Since I don’t really have time for a break during the day, I need to make sure the food I eat is fast, and that there is constantly coffee in my mug to keep me awake for my 9-5 and by that I mean 9-midnight shift.

I found myself spending way too much money on coffee and started looking for products that I can take with me on the run. That is when I came across Lean Joe Bean. Not only is it a great tasting instant coffee that dissolves in hot or cold liquids, but it also improves body composition helping you lose body weight, body fat, and improve energy overall. Could it get any better? A coffee that can keep up and also make me feel less guilty when I have to skip leg day because of a deadline.

Lean Joe Bean is honestly like no other supplement. It has taken seven years to develop this delicious coffee mix that is both safe and effective. What I love most is it is simple and quick to prepare and it really is tasty unlike other instant coffee mixes.

Lean Joe Bean’s secret weapon comes from its unique ingredients which includes dark roast coffee, green coffee bean, addolean, garcinia cambogia, green tea extracts, ginseng extracts and carnitine.

Product Love: Jewel On Fire

_White_1112018122413197_Large

Working on T.V. has its challenges. I have to write scripts, remember my lines, come up with creative interview questions, engage the audience, and try and look my best in the process. Just the other day I was watching back one of my reports when I realized something was missing, I looked well, blah. I had no colour or pop to my outfit. It was in that moment that I was on a mission to find some jewelry that would stand out, but not overshadow. That would compliment my outfit, but not break the bank. High expectations right? Well not actually because I stumbled upon Jewel On Fire.

About Jewel On Fire

I was really impressed when I started to do my research on the company. After working as jewelry manufacturers for over 50 years, they realized how much stores would mark up the cost of diamonds and gems. UP TO 500% (no wonder diamonds are so unaffordable). Their concept is that regular people like you and me should be able to afford high quality jewelry and so they cut out the middle man. You are able to buy directly from the craftsmen and manufacturers at 90% off retail pricing. Sounds pretty good right? Well it gets better because you can do it from your couch. In fact I am looking at the next piece I want to buy right now.

Just take a look at some of the amazing pieces available on the site. All low cost but real diamonds and gems;

Not sold just yet? Well how about this, you can get 25% off your Jewel on Fire promo code using the code: MIAWGORDON. Just click the link and get going; https://dealspotr.com/go/urZJt

Whether you are looking for jewelry from a night on the town, your wedding, a gift, or just something to dress up your every day look you can find it here at an affordable price.

The Practice Studios whole life concept

TPS-42.jpgIMG_6031

Since moving to Vancouver I have been pretty fortunate when it comes to my career. I was nervous to take the leap into the world of freelancing, but I am lucky to be working with some amazing companies that are keeping me busy. On the flip side, with a busy work life has also meant little down time and little focus for my personal life. It meant not a lot of social time, alone time, and fitness time. The last one being extremely important coming from an athletic background.

If you follow my social media, you know how important fitness is to me. Not only does it help me feel physically fit, but emotional fit as well. It also really helps me feel more energized and happy. When I first moved I had gone a few weeks without any fitness, and it was really starting to take its toll physically, emotionally, and mentally.

In walks the Practice Studio. I tried my first class about a month ago after I was invited by a friend, and I have been going back regularly. I try to fit in at least two classes a week at the studio because it just offers so much. Not only are the classes challenging both mentally and physically, but they are also unique. In fact the who Practice Studio is extremely unique in the sense that their focus isn’t just on fitness, but rather on overall well-being.

“Making your whole life work”

Think about that for a minute. Making your whole life work. That is the motto at the Practice Studio. Instead of having to go  to different places for your cardio, your yoga and meditation, and your nutrition, they create an environment that offers it all to you in one setting. Everything you need right at your fingertip.

The concept of the studio is that there are different pillars, the first being fitness and then nutrition, life design, and finally meditation. The don’t just focus on one aspect of your life, but rather becoming the best you.

At this point in my journey I have been able to focus on some of their unique fitness classes and I wanted to share some of my favourite classes so far so you can know what to expect and just how they differ from other studios.

Hang Tight: This was the first class that I tried and the first class I fell in love with. I had never done TRX before and so I was a little nervous, but the great thing about this class is that as challenging as it is, you can go at your own pace. The class incorporates TRX band moves that work arms, legs, and abs, as well as sprint intervals on an assault bike. After an hour of the interval training I was drenched in sweat and feeling the workout from head to toe. The focus of the class is to increase strength, conditioning, and cardio while also being in control. You decide how hard you are going to go on the bike and how difficult you’re going to make it for yourself on the TRX. It is about understanding you body and pushing yourself. This has quickly become one of my favourite classes.

Bells and Bikes: Similar to Hang Tight, this also uses the assault bike but instead of TRX, you are working out with a kettle bell. I have always enjoyed kettle bell training from my days playing tennis because it really works the muscles. The class focuses on athletic strength and improving overall body conditioning.

Elevate: I love Elevate because it is so different from anything I have tried before. Your workout is jumping on a trampoline for an hour. It is kind of like a trampoline dance party.  You are having so much fun and the time passes so quickly. However, you are indeed working out by going through different movements and intervals while working on strength training. You also use some lightweights to work on upper body strength. The class is amazing if you are looking for low impact but high intensity workout.

The Practice: This is a super fun and upbeat class and I recommend it for anyone that wants a full body workout but gets board easily (like me). The community class uses the entire studio and incorporates about 30 different exercise that you do for around 40 seconds each. You basically do a little bit of everything for a full body circuit workout.

Release: This class is a must do, especially for people like me who are always on the go and sometimes forget to take the time to relax and rejuvenate. This class really forces you to take the time out of your day and focus on you. It consists of foam rolling, stretching, and yoga. It is a much slower class where you release all the tension from the day and a way to relax the muscles you have worked throughout the week.

Float and Sting: Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee in this high intensity workout combining boxing, conditioning, and air bikes. I loved this class because you actually get to learn boxing combinations with a focus on not just punches but also footwork. Since you constantly have to think about technique it keeps you not just physically active but mental as well.

As I have mentioned, the classes at The Practice Studio are so unique and different, but what also makes these classes special are the community feel. At the beginning of the class they ask everyone a question of the day. You then connect with someone who you have never met before and discuss the question. It really makes you feel like a unit, which is extremely nice still being new to the city. This studio offers incredible cardio workouts, a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, and a place where you can really focus on a better you. I cannot wait to continue my journey at the Practice Studio.

If you want to give one of the classes a go they are available on ClassPass or you can get one of two unlimited month options for under $50, trust me you will get your money’s worth!

Happy workouts my friends,

Product Love: Biosil

12986996_10208720853434667_3627199301361195457_n

For the last six years I have worked on air as a reporter and host, you know what that means? It means for the last six years, nearly every single day, I have had to use heat products on my hair. Yes, for the last six years I have had to straighten, curl, wave, colour, you name it I have had to do it. As you can imagine doing this every day for six years can take a toll on your hair. I started to notice it was feeling dry, thin, and it wasn’t growing anymore. I was devastated but I didn’t know what else to do.

I had heard that biotin and silica and other pills and vitamins could help strengthen my hair again but no matter what I tried, it didn’t seem to work. That was when I decided to graduate from the grocery store and make my way to a real health store. It was by total fluke that I stumbled across Biosil. After reading the label that said it helps hair, nail, skin growth and contains silica I decided to give it a try.

With my product love section of the blog, I have the opportunity to share with you products that have really worked for me in categories such as beauty and health. This is one of the products that I have truly falling in love with.

biosil_product_1

Biosil contains ingredients like CH-OSA and helps your body produce collagen, elastin, and keratin. It was just two weeks after I started using Biosil (two capsules everyday) that I started to notice a different. At first, it was my nails. As a videographer, I was constantly breaking my nails because I had to carry my camera equipment, but for the first time every my nails were strong. They weren’t breaking, they were actually growing. I didn’t have to keep shellac nail polish on them either. They were strong all on their own.

The next area I started to notice a difference was my skin. Working on air, I have to put “T.V.” makeup on everyday. This means I basically have to cake up every inch of my skin thanks to all that new HD technology. I would always get breakouts from the makeup I was wearing. Yet after about a month of using Biosil, I started to see a change in my skin. It was clearing up and it was also less dry. For the first time in my entire life I was confident to walk down a street without any makeup on during my off days. I finally felt free and it was fantastic.

Yet the real reason I started taking this product was for my hair, and I still wasn’t seeing much change in that area. You may feel the same way, but don’t give up so easily. It was only after a few months of using the product that the change in my hair was noticeable to me. It wasn’t growing like a weed like my nails were, but it wasn’t breaking as much as it used to. It also wasn’t feeling as dried out. For the first time in a long time my hair actually felt… healthy.

I take this product everyday and I really do swear by it. Sure my hair isn’t  quite where I would want it to be and that is mainly because let’s face it, I won’t get it there unless I stop the heat products and colouring. Yet I am truly amazed when I look back at my stories on air and gone are the days of dead and dull and dry hair.  I see that my hair is shiny, healthy, and much longer than what it used to be.

I have spoken to a lot of women who feel the same way as me. Maybe they don’t have to style their hair every day, but as we age our hair, skin, and even or nails start to take a toll. Everyone who I talk to who has similar problems I tell them about my miracle product. I know that I will be continuing to use this product on a regular basis even when my days on air are a thing of the past because it really truly works.

For more information check out their website; www.biosilusa.com

P.S. one little piece of advice, I would recommend the capsules over the drops. The drops do work amazing, but they taste a little funky!

The One Thing I Learned From My Makeup Artist: Smoky Eyes

Screen Shot 2017-01-27 at 9.28.47 PM.png

I should start this blog off with a disclaimer, I am no make-up expert or beauty expert and I am not going to try to pretend to be. As a competitive tennis player I was a bit of a tomboy growing up. I hardly wore makeup and when I did the blush was way too pink and the eye shadow way too blue.

Having worked in TV for the past five years, I have had the opportunity to work with various makeup artists and I have picked up a few tricks of the trade.

A few tricks to the point where I have been asked by friends, colleagues, and even strangers how I do my on camera smoky eye. So I decided to share my very easy, very simple steps to how I do it.

If you are a visual learner check out my YouTube video here:

Still reading? Well, the first step is finding the right colours for your eyes. I have green eyes, and so I have been told by makeup artists that the best colours to use to make the pop are purples and greys. Want to know what colour eye shadow would be best for your eye? Well it all goes back to the basics of the colour wheel and using contrasting hues that complement each other.

Enough of boring science, let’s get into the fun makeup. To create my smoky eye look I am going to use some beautiful Mary Kay products and colours including their two palettes Moroccan Dunes and Paris Starlight

Get your brushes ready ladies because here we go!

Step 1: Eye ConcealerScreen Shot 2017-01-27 at 9.19.12 PM.png

I don’t know about you but no matter how much beauty sleep I get; I always seem to have dark circles or bags under my eye so the first thing I do is always conceal them. I use the Mary Kay Perfecting Undereye Corrector

Step 2: Primer

screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-9-11-42-pm

It is very important to prime the eyes to make sure that the makeup will stay on all day. I love the Mary Kay Foundation Primer with SPF 15. All you need is a few dots and it covers your whole face. It is so light and goes on so smooth.

Step 3: Highlight

Now for the fun part, the actually colours. The first step is to highlight with the lightest colour you are going to use. For this I use the light highlight from the Moroccan Dunes palette. I sweep it just under the brow and also in the corners of my eyes to brighten them up and make them look bigger.screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-9-12-38-pm

Step 4: Colour your Eyelid

The next step is to choose the main colour you are going to use on your eyelid. Like I said since I have green eyes, I use a purple colour to cover my eyelids. I love the light purple from the Moroccan Dunes palette.

Now comes the va va voom. Again I am going to use a purple, but this time a darker colour from the Paris Starlight palette. I always start at the edge of my eye and then work my way with a soft line above my eyelid. I start at the end because I want to get rid of most of the colour so it doesn’t overpower the colour you have put on the lid. What I really love about the Mary Kay products is they go on so smooth and light, that you don’t really have to worry about making it too dramatic. I also like to take this darker shade under my eye like an eyeliner to really up the drama.

Step 6: A little more drama.

If I am going out with friends, I wouldn’t add this step, but when you are on air, you sometimes need to over exaggerate the colours so the camera picks it up. So just on the outside of my eye I am going to add a darker colour, usually a black or dark grey. I love the dark grey from the Paris Starlight palette.

Step 7: Liquid Eyeliner

Warning: go with the lightest line you can possible do on top of your lid. Because you are going with such a dark smoky eye, adding a cat eye or line would just be overpowering. Start small and build your way up. I love the thin line of the Mary Kay Liquid Eyeliner Pen

Step 8: Eyeliner Pencil

You may not even need this step, especially if you used eye shadow underneath the eye in step 5, however if you haven’t figured it out yet, I love a more dramatic look so I will also just line my lower lash line with eyeliner, the Mary Kay Eyeliner to be exact. Again what I love about this eyeliner is it goes on so smooth and not too dark.

screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-9-22-53-pm

Step 9: Mascara

In my opinion this is the most important step in any eye look. The bigger your lashes the bigger and wide your eyes look, which is a necessity for any look you are going for. Even if you don’t wear any makeup at all, use mascara! I use the Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara. I always coat my top lashes twice for extra lift and my bottom lashes once.screen-shot-2017-01-27-at-9-23-24-pm

Step 10: Finishing Spray

Congrats, you survived my smoky eye steps. Now to finish it all off you just need to spray so it stays in place all day long. I use the Mary Kay Makeup Finishing Spray. You just hold it an arm’s length out and spray twice and you are ready to hit the town!

Well ladies congrats, you are all expert makeup artists now! Just kidding but I really do hope this helps simplify the smoky eye for you all.
